Q&A with Statuesq
Who / What / Where?
I’m originally from Fiji. My family immigrated to the United States to Washington State over 19 years ago. I have lived in Seattle and the surrounding areas for most of that time and I’m pretty obsessed with all things Seattle. Most of my close friends and family live close by and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As of the launch of this blog, I am officially 30 years old. I’ve been married for almost four years to my hubby who I met my first year of college. He is also my tech guru and the support behind this blog. In my free time, I stalk fashion blogs, love trying new food, traveling, drinking tea and wine, and of course, eating cupcakes.
Why did you name your blog Statuesq and what does it mean?
Statuesq is a play on two legal related words. Statute which means rule or written state law and Esquire which is another word for attorney or lawyer. Put the two together (like Kimye) and you get Statuesq. However, I don’t take full credit for the name. I had help from one of my best girlfriends and fellow blogger, Danielle. Check out her blog here.
The word “Statuesque” also means dignified, magnificent, and impressive, and most of the women entrepreneurs I know fit this definition.
What do you do besides this blog?
I wear multiple hats and I like it that way. During the day, I run a law firm full time and focus my practice on real estate and business law working primarily with small business owners. My husband and I also invest in real estate and own rental properties that we manage. We also have a side online marketing business, Droxon, and I also teach here and there. When I’m not doing all of the above, I sit on the Board of Directors for a large local non-profit focused on preventing homelessness and empowering women and am involved in several other non-profits focused on access to higher education.
Why did you start a blog for women entrepreneurs?
I am passionate about helping people who want to work for themselves and create a life that allows them freedom to do what they want, when they want, where they want, and with whom they want. I want to inspire and empower women who are tired of the corporate grind and want to create a business that allows them time and financial freedom. This blog is also for those who may be looking to create a little extra side income. If you have a dream of launching a business and want to create a life and career that makes your happy, then Statuesq is for you. In my years as an entrepreneur, I have learned so much and have met so many incredible people who have shared amazing stories and advice with me. I want to share that with you. This blog will feature Q&As from successful entrepreneurs who not only share valuable advice but also how to balance life and business. We will feature bossbabe profiles of inspiring women, book recommendations, and information and advice about how to start and run your own part or full-time business. I hope you will follow along and learn tons, but most of all, I hope you will be inspired enough to invest in yourself and your dreams!
