It is the second full week of January and many of us are still pretty motivated about the goals we set for the New Year! However, most people will be excited for about two more weeks. Then life will get in the way and their goals will no longer be a priority. So how can you make sure that you follow through with your 2016 goals not only in January but throughout the year?
When something becomes a habit, you don’t usually have to think hard about doing it. It becomes part of your life routine (like brushing your teeth). One of the best ways I’ve found to create habits is to create reminders. Daily reminders. Multiple times a day.
I set reminders/alarms on my phone for things I want to be doing. For example, I am trying to eat my million vitamins, three times a day. I set alarms for this. Another thing I am working on is to be present and grateful throughout the day. In order to remind myself to take the time to give thanks, I have set three different alarms throughout the day. This way, even if my work day gets hectic, I am reminded to stop, be present, and give thanks for all the good in my life.
TIP: If you have a fitbit, set these alarms on your fitbit. I don’t always like to have my phone around while I’m working, but I can still be reminded because my wrist will buzz!
So remember, in order to maintain your New Years motivation throughout the year, create habits by setting reminders, creating a routine, and reward yourself once in a while for working towards creating a better life for yourself.
